The Back to Work Manitoba Wage Subsidy initiative is a hiring program designed to support Manitoba’s economic recovery by encouraging Manitoba employers to bring back their employees or take on new hires.
Eligible employers can receive a reimbursement of 50% of total wages paid between July 16 and December 31st, 2020 for employees hired on or after July 16, 2020. This includes both new hires and existing employees that were laid off as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
All positions within an organization are eligible, including full-time, part-time, casual or term positions.
Employers can hire up to 20 new or re-hired employees under this program and are eligible for support of up to $5,000 per eligible worker.
Is my organization eligible?
Eligible employers include all private sector and non-profit organizations operating an active business in Manitoba. Public sector employers including public health, educational institutions and government organizations are not eligible. Employers that conduct multi-level marketing or passive business activities are also not eligible.
Your organization must possess an active and valid business number, business bank account and email address and be registered in good standing with the Manitoba Companies Office (not required for sole proprietors)
Program restrictions
Employers may* not be eligible for funding if they have received support for workers under any of the following existing programs
- Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS)
- Canada Summer Job Program
- Green Team
- Manitoba Back to Work this Summer Program
- Manitoba Summer Student Recovery Jobs Program
Employers are not eligible for the Manitoba Wage Subsidy if their organization was in arrears for provincial taxes prior to March 20, 2020 and have not since rectified the amount in arrears
Salaries paid to owners and members of their immediate family are not eligible to be reimbursed.
